Dr. Mulroy performed decades of research investigating the relationships between wheelchair propulsion, performance of activities of daily living, and shoulder pain and injury experience by persons living with spinal cord injury. Her groundbreaking findings are still used today to support clinical programs aimed at preventing and reducing shoulder pain.

Her passion for helping those with disabilities was evident throughout her career; always trying to find ways through her years of clinical service and research to help improve the lives of those around her.

Fund Purpose

Explore new research ideas

The fund will provide financial support for the development and execution of pilot research projects investigating new ideas and avenues for research. Projects will be focused on clinically relevant questions to ensure that they have high potential to improve the lives of  future patients. Financial support will help cover resource expenditures and support staff working on the project. Principal investigator time is required to be provided as an in-kind contribution to help maximize fund impact.

Creation of an endowed researcher position

Similar to an endowed professorship at a university, we aim to use the fund to provide financial support for a permanent researcher position within the Pathokinesiology Laboratory, to be designated as the “Sara Mulroy Endowed Researcher". This position will help us to attract and keep top rehabilitation research talent to ensure Sara's legacy continues indefinitely.

Visiting students and scholars

The fund will support the creation of new educational and scholarship opportunities for undergraduate students, graduate students, and new clinical investigators within the Pathokinesiology Laboratory. These opportunities will allow the next generation of researchers and clinicians to receive critical specialized training focused on addressing the needs of those living with physical impairments due to neurological disorders. diin the Individuals receiving financial support through this fund will be designated as a “Sara Mulroy Scholar” .

Dissemination of research and scholarship efforts

No research is beneficial unless it is openly shared with those that need the information. The fund will provide financial support for dissemination of research and scholarship efforts. Examples of costs that could be covered by the funds include conference attendance by staff, covering journal article publication fees to ensure open access to all, and supporting digital dissemination platforms.

To ensure Dr. Sara Mulroy’s legacy continues within the Pathokinesiology Laboratory we encourage you to contribute to her fund. Donate directly using the link below. Or for more information on the fund or other ways to donate, please contact the Rancho Research Institute directly.
