The functional test for the hemiparetic upper extremity measures the specific motor abilities for combination of abilities required to perform functional tasks. It consists of 17 graded tasks arranged in 7 levels. Each level requires more complex upper extremity motion to complete. The test evaluates the integrated function of the total upper extremity and has been proved valid and reliable. It can be administered in a maximum of 30 minutes and is a practical clinical tool for measuring outcome of treatment programs for the total upper extremity. (1985)
