Worker Spotlight:
A Journey of Growth and Gratitude by Rheziel Mendoza

"An opportunity to grow so I can grow" was the thought that guided my decision to apply for a new job. Today, I’m thankful to be working as a sales associate at Home Depot. This new role has shown me the reality of the fast-paced, demanding nature of the workplace, but it has also given me a sense of contentment. At first, I doubted myself, wondering if I was really ready for this new chapter. But I soon realized that this job was what I had been preparing for.

I will always be grateful to Rancho for preparing me for this moment. Through my experience here, I learned valuable lessons about serving others, taking life one day at a time, and developing strong customer service skills. Rancho taught me that we all have a role and purpose in life; that after a stroke, my life doesn’t end there. I also learned that I can still work despite my disability and that I can do everything that everybody else is doing. The best part is, Rancho made me realize that I can get a job even outside my “safety box.”
I am proud to say that working at the Rancho Works Café Gift & Shop was my first job in the U.S. It was the perfect foundation for my career. The skills and mindset I gained will stay with me forever. I will miss my coworkers and the customers who became my friends, but Rancho will always hold a special place in my heart.
